ISC West Is Back With A Vengeance

As the editors of Security Products rushed from booth visit to booth visit, we noticed something that was missing from the last few years: jam-packed aisles.

For the first two days of the sold-out show, attendees flocked to exhibitor demos, networking opportunities, and to see the latest products and solutions.  And they were not disappointed, and neither were we.

Inspiration struck me at a press dinner hosted by SightLogix, where I was reminded about how the security industry is largely an entrepreneurial industry, with many fascinating stories about what inspired the company’s inception.

For example, the SightLogix system was first conceived by CEO and co-founder John Romanowich during a security survey of Ground Zero, the former site of the World Trade Center in New York, six months after 9/11. Romanowich was frustrated by the failure of typical video analytics systems to provide a viable outdoor surveillance solution to secure the site.

In 2004, Romanowich brought together a group of fellow entrepreneurs, video analytics experts and engineers from Sarnoff and AT&T Bell Labs to found SightLogix Inc., a company committed to developing the first reliable, real-time outdoor video analytics solution.

So, stayed tuned to Security Products for a new series about the how some of the leading security companies got started, along with a spotlight on those companies who choose to manufacture their products in the United States.
